A diverse range of advanced technological solutions \u2013 from electrification and digital connectivity of buildings and urban spaces to sophisticated lighting and design concepts for architecture, urban development, and interiors were showcased at the event. Artificial intelligence, bidirectional charging, multifunctional interfaces, and connected lighting solutions were the key features in many products, signalling the next stage in the development of buildings, cities, and lighting design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the limitations on international air travel due to current geopolitical situation in the Middle East, the six-day event witnessed a total of 144,767 visitors from 143 countries, with very high footfall from China, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria, Belgium, UK, Spain, and Greece. Overall, 95 per cent visitors expressed great satisfaction and rated the range of exhibits positively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Buildings: From energy consumers to active systems<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Light + Building 2026, the Buildings Sector showed how structures are shifting from passive energy users to active parts of smart energy systems. Technologies like smart energy distribution, integrated load and charging management, and bidirectional charging are connecting buildings with power grids and e-mobility, improving efficiency and stability. Existing buildings also gained attention, with modular and scalable solutions enabling easier, cost-effective retrofits. The sector also demonstrated how digital planning, multifunctional interfaces, secure charging infrastructure, and reliable systems for critical applications are advancing building technology towards more integrated, flexible, and future-ready structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lighting: Intelligently controlled and atmospherically staged<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lighting Sector illustrated how lighting is increasingly becoming a data-driven, adaptive system. The solutions displayed demonstrated how sensors, connected luminaires and AI-based controls enable precise, demand-responsive lighting that adjusts to presence, daylight, and usage needs. Across homes, hospitality, retail, industry and urban spaces, connected and scalable solutions dominated. At the same time, the sector also highlighted how lighting remains vital in interior design, with quality fixtures, varied styles, and balanced light colours shaping ambience and perception. Sustainable materials, durable components and circular design highlighted the industry\u2019s focus on holistic lighting solutions combining technology with emotional impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Design, AI, and young talent set new trends<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A strong line-up of events at the expo ignited fresh momentum for the next wave of innovation. The Design Plaza in Hall 3.1 served as the hub for lighting and design discussions, presenting emerging lighting design developments, key trends and pioneering projects. It also hosted \u201cWomen in Lighting\u201d, encouraging global exchange within the industry, while the electrical trade launched the \u201c<em>ElektroHeldinnen<\/em>\u201d initiative to increase the visibility and networking of women in the profession. The \u201c<em>Young Design<\/em>\u201d area drew significant interest, where emerging designers showcased creative ideas through innovative materials, experimental luminaires and clear concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Hall 9\u2019s AI Lounge attracted large audiences with practical sessions on how artificial intelligence is transforming planning, operations, and business models in building technology. The special show \u201c<em>The Living Light<\/em>\u201d explored the role of lighting in home, education, work, and communication, reiterating how light shapes mood, guides perception and enhances interaction, focus, and motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Power Festival, Light + Building strengthened its support for young talent in the electrical trade. The Galleria between Halls 8 and 9 became a lively hub where apprentices, electricians, master tradespeople, and industry representatives met and exchanged ideas. The space featured a \u201cworkshop street\u201d, practical challenges, occupational safety seminars, and talks with live content from well-known trade creators. Blending networking, hands-on learning, and community, the event also included a charity initiative where visitors cycled kilometres for a cause, helping raise \u20ac10,000 for the Deutsche Kinderhilfsstiftung to support equal educational opportunities and provide school essentials for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event once again reaffirmed its strong roots in Germany and across Central and Western Europe, underlining its role as an international meeting point for industry, skilled trades, planners, and architects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Light + Building 2026 has once again demonstrated just how innovative and forward-looking this industry continues to be. At the same time, it shows how important personal encounters and direct exchange remain particularly in times like these. Light + Building fulfils its role by bringing together people from industry, the skilled trades, planning and design, creating the foundation for dialogue, cooperation and new ideas. This exchange strengthens the cohesion of the industry and provides important momentum for its continued development.
