Light + Building announces call for entries for Designplus Award
Light + Building, the world’s leading trade fair for Lighting and Building Services Technology, returns to Frankfurt from 8 to 13 March 2026, where visionary concepts will be honoured with the Designplus Award.
The Designplus Award, powered by Light + Building, celebrates extraordinary breakthroughs and sustainable solutions in the domains of lighting, electrical engineering, and home and building automation. Messe Frankfurt, in cooperation with Stylepark, an architecture and design platform and magazine, invites exhibiting firms to enter their goods into the competition. In addition to a spectacular award ceremony, the winning brands receive two exclusive digital presentation formats and a thorough communication campaign to highlight their award-winning products.
Instead of four, the tournament now has six categories, including two special honours. The Designplus Award thus provides an even larger platform for creative and sustainable solutions. The special categories ‘new Innovators +’ and ‘Sustainable Exhibition Stand +’ demonstrate Messe Frankfurt’s dedication to assisting new businesses and encouraging sustainable trade fair design.
The categories at a glance are:
Sustainability and future energy plus-
We are searching for energy-efficient systems, renewable heating solutions, storage technology, circular economy concepts, and resource conservation ideas.
Smart and connected solutions-
Products and systems that leverage IoT, artificial intelligence, BIM, or smart networking to unlock new levels of efficiency.
Lighting design and ambience-
The emphasis here is on luminaires and lighting systems, as well as smart controls and lighting design tools.
User experience and integration-
Submissions that encourage new working and living spaces, blend sustainability and design, and place people first will be recognised.
Young Innovators-
All start-ups and young innovators financed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, as well as exhibitors in the Young Design Area, are welcome to attend.
Sustainable exhibition stand-
The prize acknowledges exhibitors who dazzle with a particularly sustainable stand concept.
In a two-stage selection procedure, the award winners will be determined by an impartial expert panel comprised of industry specialists well-versed in the key themes of Light + Building. Following an initial assessment and evaluation of the submissions, the nominees will be announced before the winners are chosen in the second stage. The study will focus on which items have a significant impact on a sustainable building sector.
During the trade fair, both nominated and winning goods will be featured in an online gallery as well as digital info hubs on the exhibition grounds. The winners will be recognised at Light + Building 2026 with a festive award ceremony and the exclusive Designplus Award Trophy.
